Quick answer
We handle turbocharger repair on 11 Volvo models spanning 2008–2024 at our KPHB workshop — S80, S90, V60, V90 Cross Country, XC90 and XC90 Recharge and 5 others. Hardware we work on includes Garrett GTB, D5244T 2.4 D5, BorgWarner K03 and B4204T34, diagnosed on VIDA driven through a DiCE interface with OE or OEM-equivalent parts. Recurring Volvo symptoms we fix are D5244T turbocharger oil starvation, Garrett GTB wastegate actuator failure and P0299 underboost condition. Work starts from ₹3,500 – ₹8,500, with a written fixed-price estimate after a free inspection, 12-month warranty, free pickup and drop across Hyderabad, and invoices that usually land 30–40% under authorised Volvo dealer quotes.
About Volvo turbocharger repair at Metre Per Second
A modern turbocharger spins at 200,000-280,000 RPM, runs on a film of oil 4 microns thick, and operates with exhaust gases at 850-950°C. When it fails, the symptoms are loud and expensive: blue smoke, loss of boost, whistling, rattle on shut-down, oil in the intercooler. Most workshops sell you a full replacement turbo at ₹70,000-2.5 lakh. We rebuild yours for 30-50% of that. At MPS we offer three levels of turbo service: ACTUATOR / VGT REPAIR (₹3,500-15,000 — fixes most boost-control faults without removing the turbo); CARTRIDGE OVERHAUL / CHRA REBUILD (₹14,000-45,000 — new bearings, seals, balanced wheel-and-shaft assembly on a Schenck-type balancing rig, refit and recoded); and FULL TURBO REPLACEMENT (only when the housing or wastegate is cracked — OE or remanufactured, with adaptation). We service Garrett (BMW B47/B57, Mercedes OM651/OM654, Volvo, Ford), BorgWarner (VW/Audi EA288, EA888, Hyundai/Kia, Mahindra mHawk), Mitsubishi TD/TF (Toyota GD-series, Mahindra), IHI RHF (Honda i-DTEC, Nissan, Suzuki), and KKK/3K (Tata Multijet II, Fiat). Every overhaul ends with a boost-pressure test on the road and a printed VGT learning report.

Why Volvo owners across Hyderabad bring their car to us
- Schenck-type balancing rig — Most workshops swap new cartridges and hope. We balance your rebuilt assembly to OEM spec — the only way a rebuilt turbo lasts another 100,000 km.
- All major turbo brands — Garrett (GTB, GTD, MGT, GBC), BorgWarner (BV, KP, K03, K04, B01, B02), Mitsubishi (TD03, TD04, TF035), IHI (RHF, RHV), KKK/3K (BV43, K03). We rebuild what others quote replacement for.
- VGT actuator recoding — Hella, Continental, BorgWarner electronic actuators all need end-stop calibration after refit — done with ISTA, XENTRY, ODIS or J2534. New actuator without coding = limp mode in 200 km.
- Save 50-70% vs new turbo — A new BMW B47 turbo is ₹1.85 lakh from BMW. We rebuild yours, balanced and warrantied, for ₹35,000-55,000. Same OEM-spec performance.
Volvo turbocharger repair — frequently asked questions
Is my Volvo covered for turbocharger repair at your Hyderabad workshop?
11 Volvo models — S80 (2014-2016), S90 (2016-2024), V60 (2018-2024), V90 Cross Country (2017-2024), XC90 (2016-2024), XC90 Recharge (2021-2024), XC40 (2018-2024), XC60 (2008-2024), S60 (2010-2024), V90 (2016-2024) and XC 40 (2018-2024). Body styles range across Sedan and SUV. Each of those Volvo models has its own turbocharger repair page listing the exact turbocharger fitted, the faults we log on it in Hyderabad and what the job involves.
Do you know the specific turbocharger fitted to my Volvo?
The Volvo hardware through our bay covers Garrett GTB, D5244T 2.4 D5, BorgWarner K03, B4204T34, Garrett GT1544V, D4204T14, BorgWarner B01 and B4204T33 2.0 Turbo Petrol, plus 27 other factory fitments. Codes we work to: D5244T 2.4 D5, B4204T34, D4204T14, B4204T33 2.0 Turbo Petrol / D4204T19 2.0 Turbo Diesel, D5 2.0 Diesel / T6 2.0 Petrol Turbo and B4204T35. By model that breaks down as S80 — Garrett, S90 — BorgWarner, V60 — Garrett, V90 Cross Country — BorgWarner, XC90 — BorgWarner and XC90 Recharge — BorgWarner. Pinning the variant down first is not pedantry — a S80 and a XC 40 take different parts, different clearances and a different adaptation afterwards.
What Volvo turbocharger problems do you see most in Hyderabad?
Model by model, the faults we log are S80 — D5244T turbocharger oil starvation; Garrett GTB wastegate actuator failure; P0299 underboost condition, S90 — B4204T34 turbocharger failure due to oil starvation; BorgWarner K03 wastegate actuator malfunction; P0299 underboost condition, V60 — D4204T14 turbo oil feed blockage; D4204T14 wastegate actuator failure; P0299 underboost condition in D4204T14, V90 Cross Country — B4204T33 wastegate rattle during acceleration; D4204T19 turbo oil feed line blockage; P0299 underboost on D4204T19, XC90 — D5 2.0 Diesel turbo lag under heavy load; T6 2.0 Petrol Turbo wastegate rattle; P0299 underboost on D5, XC90 Recharge — B4204T35 turbocharger oil feed blockage; BorgWarner wastegate actuator failure; P0299 underboost condition, XC40 — Drive-E supercharger + turbo combo failure (T6); Wastegate rattle; Oil leak at turbo flange, XC60 — P0299 underboost condition from a boost leak or worn turbo; VGT / VNT variable-vane mechanism sticking on soot causing boost surge; Turbo oil-feed line coking after hot shut-downs in Banjara Hills traffic, S60 — P0299 underboost condition from a boost leak or worn turbo; VGT / VNT variable-vane mechanism sticking on soot causing boost surge; Turbo oil-feed line coking after hot shut-downs in Kondapur traffic and V90 — P0299 underboost condition from a boost leak or worn turbo; VGT / VNT variable-vane mechanism sticking on soot causing boost surge; Turbo oil-feed line coking after hot shut-downs in Kukatpally traffic, plus 1 more across the rest of the Volvo range. Taken together the recurring themes on Volvo are D5244T turbocharger oil starvation, Garrett GTB wastegate actuator failure, P0299 underboost condition, Excessive turbocharger noise on acceleration, D5244T turbo lag during initial throttle response and B4204T34 turbocharger failure due to oil starvation. Hyderabad's crawl-speed traffic, 45°C summers and inconsistent fuel bring them forward by 20–30% against the Volvo maintenance schedule, so we chase the root cause before quoting instead of replacing parts on symptoms.
Can you read Volvo-specific fault codes and live data?
Yes — every Volvo turbocharger repair starts with a full-system scan on VIDA driven through a DiCE interface, so we read manufacturer live values, freeze-frame data and adaptation counters rather than generic OBD-II codes. That matters on Volvo, because D5244T 2.4 D5, B4204T34, D4204T14, B4204T33 2.0 Turbo Petrol / D4204T19 2.0 Turbo Diesel and D5 2.0 Diesel / T6 2.0 Petrol Turbo each report different parameter blocks and need their own test plan. After the repair we run whatever the turbocharger on your S80 or S90 needs — coding, basic settings, calibration or a guided adaptation — then re-scan and road-test to confirm the fault memory stays clear.
What will turbocharger repair on my Volvo cost?
Indicative rates: VGT vane clean ₹3,500 – ₹8,500; Actuator repair ₹6,500 – ₹15,000; CHRA overhaul ₹14,000 – ₹45,000; Full overhaul ₹22,000 – ₹65,000. Where your Volvo lands inside that band depends on the variant — a S80 does not price like a XC 40, and models on Garrett GTB carry different part costs to those on D5244T 2.4 D5. You get a written fixed-price estimate after a free inspection and before any teardown, normally 30–40% below an authorised Volvo quote.
How long does Volvo turbocharger repair take?
Most Volvo jobs finish in 1–3 working days, and diagnosis plus the written estimate are usually same-day. Access drives the rest: a S80 or S90 is straightforward, whereas a XC 40 on Drive-E B4204 2.0 T (B/T-series) / Drive-E D4204 2.0 D needs extra bench time and a post-fit adaptation. Anything needing a part flown in for a Volvo of that generation adds a day or two; we confirm the timeline with the quote and send daily photo updates from the bay.
How is my Volvo repair backed after I collect the car?
You get our 12-Month Warranty covering both parts and workmanship, redeemable at KPHB with a no-charge re-inspection while it is live. Components for the S80, S90, V60, V90 Cross Country and XC90 — and the rest of the Volvo table — are OE or OEM-equivalent only, and each part number plus its supplier brand goes on the printed invoice so nothing is hidden behind a line item.
Can you still get parts for an older Volvo such as the XC60?
Parts supply is rarely the blocker. Our Volvo coverage spans 2008–2024, with the XC60 (2008-2024) the oldest car in the table. Where Volvo no longer supplies a component we go direct to the original manufacturer of that part, and a rebuildable turbocharger is overhauled rather than quoted as a new assembly — the reason an ageing Volvo is usually worth fixing rather than writing off.
Which parts of Hyderabad do you pick Volvo cars up from?
Yes — free pickup and drop, most often to Madhapur, Gachibowli, Hi-Tech City, Kondapur, Begumpet, Secunderabad, KPHB, Kukatpally, Manikonda and Financial District and 12+ further localities. If the Volvo is not safe to drive we arrange flatbed recovery instead. Call or WhatsApp 8555824915 with the model and year — S80, S90 or anything else in the table above — and we will confirm a slot the same day.
Should I take my Volvo to the dealer or to MPS?
We are an independent Volvo specialist, not a general garage. The fault is scoped on VIDA driven through a DiCE interface, the repair is done at component level where a dealer replaces the whole assembly, and the technician who quoted the job signs it off. That is why turbocharger repair on a S80 lands 30–40% under a dealer invoice while still using OE-grade parts — and why the coverage table above lists 11 Volvo models we work on week in, week out.
General turbocharger repair questions
How much does turbocharger repair cost in Hyderabad?
VGT vane cleaning is ₹3,500-8,500. Actuator repair / replacement is ₹6,500-15,000. A full CHRA cartridge overhaul (new bearings, seals, balanced wheel-and-shaft, warranty) is ₹14,000-45,000 depending on turbo size and brand. A complete overhaul including housing and wastegate inspection is ₹22,000-65,000. OE replacement turbos are ₹45,000-2,80,000 — needed only when housing or wastegate is cracked. We give a fixed-price quote after diagnostic.
Can a damaged turbo be rebuilt, or do I have to replace it?
85-90% of turbo problems can be fixed with a CHRA (cartridge) rebuild — replacement is rarely the right first answer. Worn bearings, oil seals, sticking VGT vanes and faulty actuators are all repairable. Replacement is needed only when the turbo housing is cracked, the wastegate flapper is broken off, or the compressor wheel has shattered. We strip your turbo first, photograph the damage, and quote rebuild OR replacement honestly.
What is VGT and why does it fail?
VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger, also called VNT) uses moveable vanes inside the turbine housing to optimise boost across the rev range. The vanes get coated in carbon (especially on cars with EGR + DPF issues), seize up, and the engine throws P0299 / P2563 codes — usually triggering limp mode. Often the vanes can be ultrasonic-cleaned in-situ; in worse cases the cartridge needs full overhaul.
Do you balance the rebuilt turbo cartridge?
Yes — every CHRA overhaul ends with the wheel-and-shaft assembly balanced on a Schenck-type rig to better than 0.05 g.mm imbalance, the same spec as the OEM. This is the single most important step in a turbo rebuild — workshops that skip balancing produce turbos that feel fine for 5,000 km then destroy themselves at 15,000 km. We give you the printed balance report.
Why is my car blowing blue smoke after the turbo died?
A failed turbo dumps engine oil into the intake on the compressor side, or out of the exhaust on the turbine side. Blue smoke under acceleration = oil burning in the cylinders. The fix is a CHRA rebuild (new oil seals + bearings) PLUS a thorough clean of the intercooler, intake pipes and EGR — leftover oil burns off for weeks if you skip this step.
Will rebuilding the turbo also fix my limp mode?
Usually yes, if the limp mode is caused by underboost / overboost (P0299, P0234, P2563). After rebuild, we do an actuator end-stop calibration via OEM tool (ISTA/XENTRY/ODIS), reset all turbo adaptations, and verify boost on a 30-km road test. If the limp mode is from a different fault (DPF, EGR, sensor), we tell you upfront before any turbo work.
