Quick answer

Automatic transmission repair at Metre Per Second in Hyderabad runs ₹18,000–₹95,000 depending on whether you need a fluid and filter service, a mechatronics or valve-body rebuild, a clutch-pack replacement or a full gearbox overhaul. We start with a free scan of TCU adaptation values and live line pressure, then give a written fixed-price quote before anything is opened. You need us when the car judders between gears, flares on upshift, thumps into Drive, or drops into limp mode — waiting turns a ₹25,000 valve-body job into a ₹90,000 rebuild.

Hyderabad's Automatic Transmission Repair Authority

Metre Per Second — Premium Car Service and Repair is Hyderabad's dedicated automatic transmission workshop. While general garages swap parts and hope, we diagnose the actual fault — reading live data and stored DTCs on the manufacturer's own platforms (VW/Audi ODIS, Mercedes XENTRY, BMW ISTA, Hyundai/Kia GDS) — so you only pay for the repair your car truly needs.

Automatic gearboxes are precision hydraulic-electronic systems. A torque converter, a CVT belt-and-pulley, a DSG dual-clutch with its mechatronic unit and an AMT actuator each fail in completely different ways. Our technicians have rebuilt all of them, which is why we can fix a shudder, a harsh shift or a limp-home fault correctly the first time.

Over 10 years and 25,075+ vehicles in Hyderabad, we have built our reputation on honest diagnosis, genuine parts and a 1-year warranty on rebuilds. Free pickup and drop across KPHB, Madhapur, Gachibowli and Banjara Hills means your car reaches our bay without you missing a day of work.

What We Repair

Torque Converter & Planetary Autos

Lock-up clutch shudder, harsh 1-2 shifts and slipping on conventional automatics (Aisin, ZF 6HP/8HP, 9G-Tronic) — valve-body overhaul, converter replacement and full rebuilds.

CVT / IVT Repair

Belt and pulley wear, judder on take-off and step-out noise on Toyota Direct-Shift, Aisin K114 and Hyundai/Kia Smartstream IVT — fluid service, valve-body and complete rebuilds.

DSG / DCT Dual-Clutch

VW/Skoda/Audi DQ200/DQ250/DQ381 and other dual-clutch units — mechatronic solenoid faults, clutch pack wear, jerky low-speed shifts and limp mode resolved with bench-tested mechatronics.

AMT Actuator & Clutch

Maruti/Tata/Renault AMT hesitation, gear-not-engaging and TCU faults — actuator overhaul, slave/master cylinder, gear-position sensor and clutch replacement.

TCU Software & Adaptation

Post-repair clutch and pressure adaptation, basic settings reset and TCU coding so shifts are smooth and the gearbox learns your driving correctly.

ATF Service & Leak Repair

Spec-correct ATF/CVT fluid change, pan and filter service, and sealing of pan, cooler-line and axle-seal leaks before they starve the gearbox of pressure.

Our Repair Process

  1. Free Pickup & Vehicle Intake: We collect your car from anywhere in Hyderabad, log symptoms and confirm the gearbox type and fluid spec before any work begins.
  2. Road Test & Full Diagnostic Scan: A technician road-tests the car, then reads live data and stored fault codes on the OEM platform (ODIS / XENTRY / ISTA / GDS) to pinpoint the exact failure.
  3. Fluid Condition & Internal Inspection: We check ATF colour, smell and metal content, drop the pan, and inspect the valve body, clutches or belt/pulley to confirm internal wear.
  4. Mechatronic / Valve-Body Bench Test: Suspect mechatronic and valve-body units are removed and tested on the bench so we repair the real cause, not symptoms.
  5. Fixed Quote & Your Approval: You get a clear, itemised, fixed quote. No work proceeds until you approve it — no surprises on the invoice.
  6. Repair / Rebuild With OE Parts: We repair or rebuild using genuine or OE-grade clutches, solenoids, seals and friction plates in our in-house transmission bay.
  7. Adaptation, Coding & QC Road Test: After assembly we run adaptation/basic settings, clear codes and road-test the car under load until shifts are perfect.
  8. Handover With 1-Year Warranty: Your car is delivered back clean, with the job explained and a 1-year warranty on the rebuild.

Why Automatic Transmission Repair Is Needed — Common Causes

Heat & Degraded ATF

Hyderabad traffic keeps gearboxes hot. Old, burnt fluid loses lubrication and hydraulic pressure, accelerating clutch and valve-body wear.

Skipped Fluid Changes

Many owners believe automatic fluid is 'lifetime'. It isn't — overdue ATF/CVT fluid is the single biggest cause of premature failure.

Stop-Go Driving & Riding Creep

Constant crawl in traffic and holding the car on the accelerator instead of the brake overheats the converter and dual-clutch.

Mechatronic / Solenoid Wear

On DSG/DCT units, ageing solenoids and pressure-control faults cause jerky shifts and limp mode well before the clutches wear out.

CVT Belt & Pulley Wear

Aggressive acceleration and overdue fluid wear the steel belt and pulley faces, producing the classic take-off judder and slip.

Leaks & Low Fluid Level

Pan, cooler-line and seal leaks drop the fluid level, starving the gearbox of the pressure it needs to shift and lock up.

How To Avoid Automatic Transmission Repair — Prevention

Change Fluid On Schedule

Service ATF/CVT fluid every 40,000–60,000 km (or as the maker specifies) with the exact OEM spec — never a generic fluid.

Use The Correct Spec

Each gearbox needs a specific fluid (e.g. DSG vs CVT vs ATF). Wrong fluid causes shudder and damage — we always match the OEM spec.

Don't Ride The Creep

In traffic, use the brake to hold the car, not the throttle. It keeps the converter and clutches cooler.

Warm Up Before Hard Driving

Let the car move gently for the first few minutes so the fluid reaches operating temperature before you accelerate hard.

Fix Leaks Early

A small pan or seal weep becomes a low-pressure failure. Address leaks the moment you spot fluid spots.

Periodic Health Scan

An annual adaptation/health scan catches solenoid and clutch wear before it becomes an expensive rebuild.

Recent Repairs at Our Workshop

DSG Limp Mode Solved Without a New Gearbox

Volkswagen Polo GT · DQ200 7-speed DSG

Problem: Customer reported juddering at low speed and repeated limp-home mode. A dealership had quoted a full gearbox replacement.

Work done: ODIS scan revealed mechatronic pressure-control faults, not clutch failure. We bench-tested and replaced the mechatronic unit, renewed the clutch pack and ran full basic-settings adaptation.

Outcome: Smooth, fault-free shifting restored at roughly a third of the replacement quote, delivered with a 1-year warranty. (₹52,000)

CVT Judder Fixed With Fluid & Valve-Body Service

Honda City · Earth Dreams CVT

Problem: Strong shudder on take-off and hesitation when accelerating. Owner feared a full CVT replacement.

Work done: Inspection showed degraded, overdue CVT fluid and a sticking valve body. We performed a spec-correct CVT fluid service, cleaned and reconditioned the valve body, and road-tested under load.

Outcome: Judder eliminated and smooth power delivery restored at a fraction of replacement cost. (₹14,500)

ZF 8HP Slip Rebuilt to Factory Feel

Audi A4 · ZF 8HP automatic

Problem: Slipping under hard acceleration with occasional flare between shifts on a high-mileage car.

Work done: Full teardown revealed worn friction plates and a tired torque converter. We rebuilt the unit with OE-grade friction material, replaced the converter, renewed all seals and recoded the TCU.

Outcome: Crisp, factory-feel shifts restored. Customer reported the car drives better than it had in years. (₹78,000)

Customer Reviews

★★★★★ Ravi Teja, KPHB — Skoda Octavia DSG

My DSG was jerking and went into limp mode. They bench-tested the mechatronic, replaced it and did the adaptation. Shifts are buttery now and the price was exactly what they quoted.

Booked, they picked up the car, diagnosed, quoted, and delivered on time. Transparent pricing and a warranty — exactly what you want from a premium workshop.

Technical terms explained

The automatic transmission repair terms that appear on our estimates, job cards and diagnostic reports — in plain English, written by the technicians who use them.

Torque converter
The fluid coupling that sits between the engine and an automatic gearbox in place of a clutch, multiplying torque from standstill through a turbine, impeller and stator. Above roughly 40 km/h a lock-up clutch inside it bolts the engine directly to the gearbox for fuel economy. When that lock-up clutch lining wears, you feel a shudder like driving over rumble strips at light throttle in top gear.
Mechatronics unit
The combined hydraulic valve block and electronic control module that lives inside a DSG, DCT or modern torque-converter automatic and actually executes every gearshift. It contains the solenoids, pressure sensors and the TCU circuit board in one serviceable assembly. Heat-cracked solder joints and worn pressure regulators are the usual failure, showing up as flashing gear indicators, harsh engagement or a straight drop into limp mode.
Valve body
The hydraulic brain of an automatic gearbox — an aluminium casting full of machined bores, separator plates and spool valves that route pressurised ATF to the right clutch pack at the right instant. Bore wear and a scored separator plate cause cross-leak, so line pressure collapses during a shift. Symptoms are delayed engagement when cold, flare between gears, and pressure-regulation fault codes stored in the TCU.
DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox)
Volkswagen Group's dual-clutch transmission, which is effectively two manual gearboxes sharing one housing — one clutch handles odd gears, the other even — so the next ratio is pre-selected before the shift happens. The DQ200 is a dry-clutch 7-speed used on lower-torque petrols, while the DQ250, DQ381 and DQ500 run wet clutches in oil. Dry DQ200 units are mechatronics-sensitive; wet units need their oil and filter changed every 40,000 km or the clutch packs glaze.
CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission)
A gearbox with no fixed ratios: a steel push-belt or chain runs between two variable-width pulleys, so the engine can hold its most efficient rpm while road speed changes. Because everything depends on clamping pressure, the failure mode is belt slip that polishes the pulley faces and dumps metal into the fluid. Correct CVT-specific fluid at the right interval is the single biggest factor in whether a CVT lasts 60,000 km or 200,000 km.
TCU adaptation reset
The procedure that clears the learned clutch fill volumes, kiss points and shift-pressure corrections a transmission control unit has accumulated over its life. After a clutch pack, mechatronics or fluid service, the old learned values no longer match the new hardware and the gearbox shifts badly until they are erased. The reset is done on an OEM-level tool and must be followed by a structured drive cycle so the TCU re-learns properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my automatic transmission needs repair?

Watch for jerky or delayed shifts, shudder on take-off, slipping under acceleration, a burnt smell, warning lights or the car dropping into limp mode. Any of these means you should get it scanned before it worsens.

Do you repair CVT, DSG, DCT, AMT and torque-converter automatics?

Yes — we specialise in all of them. Each type fails differently, and our technicians have rebuilt torque converters, CVT/IVT, dual-clutch DSG/DCT and AMT units, so we diagnose and fix the correct fault.

Will I always need a full rebuild?

No. Many issues are solved with a fluid service, valve-body or mechatronic repair, or actuator work — far cheaper than a rebuild. We only recommend a rebuild when the internals are genuinely worn, and we prove it during inspection.

How much does automatic transmission repair cost in Hyderabad?

Fluid services start at ₹3,999, valve-body/mechatronic repairs typically range ₹8,000–₹30,000, and full rebuilds run ₹35,000–₹90,000 depending on the gearbox and parts. You always get a fixed quote after a free inspection.

Do you use genuine parts and proper diagnostic tools?

Yes. We use OEM/OE-grade parts and the manufacturer's own diagnostic platforms — ODIS, XENTRY, ISTA, GDS and PIWIS — so coding and adaptation are dealer-accurate.

Do you offer pickup and drop?

Yes, free pickup and drop across KPHB, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Hi-Tech City, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills.

How long does a transmission repair take?

A fluid service is same-day. Valve-body or mechatronic repairs usually take 1–2 days, and a full rebuild typically 3–5 days depending on parts availability.

Is there a warranty?

Yes — every rebuild is backed by a 1-year unconditional warranty.
