About Land Rover turbocharger repair at Metre Per Second
A modern turbocharger spins at 200,000-280,000 RPM, runs on a film of oil 4 microns thick, and operates with exhaust gases at 850-950°C. When it fails, the symptoms are loud and expensive: blue smoke, loss of boost, whistling, rattle on shut-down, oil in the intercooler. Most workshops sell you a full replacement turbo at ₹70,000-2.5 lakh. We rebuild yours for 30-50% of that. At MPS we offer three levels of turbo service: ACTUATOR / VGT REPAIR (₹3,500-15,000 — fixes most boost-control faults without removing the turbo); CARTRIDGE OVERHAUL / CHRA REBUILD (₹14,000-45,000 — new bearings, seals, balanced wheel-and-shaft assembly on a Schenck-type balancing rig, refit and recoded); and FULL TURBO REPLACEMENT (only when the housing or wastegate is cracked — OE or remanufactured, with adaptation). We service Garrett (BMW B47/B57, Mercedes OM651/OM654, Volvo, Ford), BorgWarner (VW/Audi EA288, EA888, Hyundai/Kia, Mahindra mHawk), Mitsubishi TD/TF (Toyota GD-series, Mahindra), IHI RHF (Honda i-DTEC, Nissan, Suzuki), and KKK/3K (Tata Multijet II, Fiat). Every overhaul ends with a boost-pressure test on the road and a printed VGT learning report.

Why Land Rover owners across Hyderabad bring their car to us
- Schenck-type balancing rig — Most workshops swap new cartridges and hope. We balance your rebuilt assembly to OEM spec — the only way a rebuilt turbo lasts another 100,000 km.
- All major turbo brands — Garrett (GTB, GTD, MGT, GBC), BorgWarner (BV, KP, K03, K04, B01, B02), Mitsubishi (TD03, TD04, TF035), IHI (RHF, RHV), KKK/3K (BV43, K03). We rebuild what others quote replacement for.
- VGT actuator recoding — Hella, Continental, BorgWarner electronic actuators all need end-stop calibration after refit — done with ISTA, XENTRY, ODIS or J2534. New actuator without coding = limp mode in 200 km.
- Save 50-70% vs new turbo — A new BMW B47 turbo is ₹1.85 lakh from BMW. We rebuild yours, balanced and warrantied, for ₹35,000-55,000. Same OEM-spec performance.

Coverage includes SUV. Every one links to a dedicated turbocharger repair page detailing its turbocharger, the failures we actually see here and the workshop process.
What Land Rover turbocharger hardware can you work on?
Across this Land Rover range we service BorgWarner B01, D240 2.0 TD4, Garrett GTD2052V, P300 2.0 Turbo, D240 2.0 Turbo Diesel, 2.0 SD4, Garrett GTB and IHI and 13 further factory variants. Unit and engine codes on the bench include D240 2.0 TD4, P300 2.0 Turbo / D240 2.0 Turbo Diesel, 2.0 SD4, Ingenium 2.0 TD4 / SD4 / Si4, Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Petrol / Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Diesel and Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Petrol / Ingenium 2.0 Diesel. Per-model specification — Defender — BorgWarner, Defender 110 — Garrett, Defender 90 — BorgWarner, Discovery — BorgWarner, Discovery 5 — BorgWarner and Discovery Sport — Garrett / IHI. Identifying the exact variant on your Defender or Range Rover Velar matters, because parts, tolerances and the post-fit adaptation routine differ between them.
What usually goes wrong with the turbocharger on a Land Rover in Hyderabad?
Model by model, the faults we log are Defender — D240 underboost due to clogged intercooler; D240 turbocharger oil feed blockage; BorgWarner wastegate actuator failure, Defender 110 — D240 2.0 TD4 turbocharger oil starvation; GTD2052V wastegate actuator failure; P0299 underboost condition, Defender 90 — P0299 underboost on D240; B01 turbocharger wastegate rattle; P0045 turbocharger boost control malfunction, Discovery — 2.0 SD4 turbocharger oil starvation leading to failure; BorgWarner B01 wastegate actuator malfunction; P0299 underboost condition due to turbo leak, Discovery 5 — 2.0 SD4 turbocharger oil starvation leading to failure; BorgWarner B01 wastegate rattle under load; P0299 underboost condition due to turbo leak, Discovery Sport — Ingenium turbo oil-feed restrictor clogging (well-known JLR issue); VGT seizure; Wastegate rattle, Discovery Sport 2024 — Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Diesel P0299 underboost; BorgWarner B01 wastegate rattle; Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Petrol oil coking in turbo, Range Rover — Ingenium 2.0 Turbo wastegate rattle under load; Garrett GT15 oil seal failure leading to smoke; P0299 underboost condition on Ingenium Diesel, Range Rover Evoque — Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Diesel P0299 underboost; BorgWarner B01 wastegate rattle; Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Petrol turbo lag on acceleration and Range Rover L405 — Ingenium Turbo wastegate rattle at low RPM; GTD2052V boost control solenoid failure; P0299 underboost condition in TD6, plus 5 more across the rest of the Land Rover range. Taken together the recurring themes on Land Rover are D240 underboost due to clogged intercooler, D240 turbocharger oil feed blockage, BorgWarner wastegate actuator failure, D240 turbo whine under acceleration, D240 boost pressure sensor fault (P0234) and D240 2.0 TD4 turbocharger oil starvation. Hyderabad's crawl-speed traffic, 45°C summers and inconsistent fuel bring them forward by 20–30% against the Land Rover maintenance schedule, so we chase the root cause before quoting instead of replacing parts on symptoms.
What diagnostic tools do you use on Land Rover cars?
Yes — every Land Rover turbocharger repair starts with a full-system scan on JLR Pathfinder with the Land Rover topology set, so we read manufacturer live values, freeze-frame data and adaptation counters rather than generic OBD-II codes. That matters on Land Rover, because D240 2.0 TD4, P300 2.0 Turbo / D240 2.0 Turbo Diesel, 2.0 SD4, Ingenium 2.0 TD4 / SD4 / Si4 and Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Petrol / Ingenium 2.0 Turbo Diesel each report different parameter blocks and need their own test plan. After the repair we run whatever the turbocharger on your Defender or Defender 110 needs — coding, basic settings, calibration or a guided adaptation — then re-scan and road-test to confirm the fault memory stays clear.
What will turbocharger repair on my Land Rover cost?
Indicative rates: VGT vane clean ₹3,500 – ₹8,500; Actuator repair ₹6,500 – ₹15,000; CHRA overhaul ₹14,000 – ₹45,000; Full overhaul ₹22,000 – ₹65,000. Where your Land Rover lands inside that band depends on the variant — a Defender does not price like a Range Rover Velar, and models on BorgWarner B01 carry different part costs to those on D240 2.0 TD4. You get a written fixed-price estimate after a free inspection and before any teardown, normally 30–40% below an authorised Land Rover quote.
How long does Land Rover turbocharger repair take?
Most Land Rover jobs finish in 1–3 working days, and diagnosis plus the written estimate are usually same-day. Access drives the rest: a Defender or Defender 110 is straightforward, whereas a Range Rover Velar on Ingenium 2.0 P250 / Ingenium 2.0 D240 needs extra bench time and a post-fit adaptation. Anything needing a part flown in for a Land Rover of that generation adds a day or two; we confirm the timeline with the quote and send daily photo updates from the bay.
How is my Land Rover repair backed after I collect the car?
The 12-Month Warranty applies to parts and labour on every Land Rover job, with a free re-check at the KPHB bay during the cover period. Nothing below OE-equivalent goes onto a Defender, Defender 110, Defender 90, Discovery and Discovery 5 or any other model in the list, and because we itemise part numbers and supplier brands on the invoice you can verify the spec against Land Rover documentation before you pay.
Can you still get parts for an older Land Rover such as the Range Rover L405?
We do, right back through 2013–2024; the earliest Land Rover in our list is the Range Rover L405 (2013-2024). Once Land Rover dealer stock dries up we buy OE-equivalent parts from the original tier-one suppliers, and any turbocharger that can be rebuilt gets overhauled on the bench instead of replaced as a complete assembly — which is often what keeps an older car economically repairable.
Can you collect my Land Rover from home for the repair?
Yes — free pickup and drop, most often to Madhapur, Gachibowli, Hi-Tech City, Kondapur, Begumpet, Secunderabad, KPHB, Kukatpally, Manikonda and Financial District and 12+ further localities. If the Land Rover is not safe to drive we arrange flatbed recovery instead. Call or WhatsApp 8555824915 with the model and year — Defender, Defender 110 or anything else in the table above — and we will confirm a slot the same day.
How does MPS compare to a Land Rover dealer workshop?
We are an independent Land Rover specialist, not a general garage. The fault is scoped on JLR Pathfinder with the Land Rover topology set, the repair is done at component level where a dealer replaces the whole assembly, and the technician who quoted the job signs it off. That is why turbocharger repair on a Defender lands 30–40% under a dealer invoice while still using OE-grade parts — and why the coverage table above lists 15 Land Rover models we work on week in, week out.
General turbocharger repair questions
How much does turbocharger repair cost in Hyderabad?
VGT vane cleaning is ₹3,500-8,500. Actuator repair / replacement is ₹6,500-15,000. A full CHRA cartridge overhaul (new bearings, seals, balanced wheel-and-shaft, warranty) is ₹14,000-45,000 depending on turbo size and brand. A complete overhaul including housing and wastegate inspection is ₹22,000-65,000. OE replacement turbos are ₹45,000-2,80,000 — needed only when housing or wastegate is cracked. We give a fixed-price quote after diagnostic.
Can a damaged turbo be rebuilt, or do I have to replace it?
85-90% of turbo problems can be fixed with a CHRA (cartridge) rebuild — replacement is rarely the right first answer. Worn bearings, oil seals, sticking VGT vanes and faulty actuators are all repairable. Replacement is needed only when the turbo housing is cracked, the wastegate flapper is broken off, or the compressor wheel has shattered. We strip your turbo first, photograph the damage, and quote rebuild OR replacement honestly.
What is VGT and why does it fail?
VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger, also called VNT) uses moveable vanes inside the turbine housing to optimise boost across the rev range. The vanes get coated in carbon (especially on cars with EGR + DPF issues), seize up, and the engine throws P0299 / P2563 codes — usually triggering limp mode. Often the vanes can be ultrasonic-cleaned in-situ; in worse cases the cartridge needs full overhaul.
Do you balance the rebuilt turbo cartridge?
Yes — every CHRA overhaul ends with the wheel-and-shaft assembly balanced on a Schenck-type rig to better than 0.05 g.mm imbalance, the same spec as the OEM. This is the single most important step in a turbo rebuild — workshops that skip balancing produce turbos that feel fine for 5,000 km then destroy themselves at 15,000 km. We give you the printed balance report.
Why is my car blowing blue smoke after the turbo died?
A failed turbo dumps engine oil into the intake on the compressor side, or out of the exhaust on the turbine side. Blue smoke under acceleration = oil burning in the cylinders. The fix is a CHRA rebuild (new oil seals + bearings) PLUS a thorough clean of the intercooler, intake pipes and EGR — leftover oil burns off for weeks if you skip this step.
Will rebuilding the turbo also fix my limp mode?
Usually yes, if the limp mode is caused by underboost / overboost (P0299, P0234, P2563). After rebuild, we do an actuator end-stop calibration via OEM tool (ISTA/XENTRY/ODIS), reset all turbo adaptations, and verify boost on a 30-km road test. If the limp mode is from a different fault (DPF, EGR, sensor), we tell you upfront before any turbo work.
