Understanding Automatic Transmissions

Modern automatic transmissions are complex hydraulic systems that include:

• Torque Converter: Transfers engine power to transmission
• Planetary Gear Sets: Provide multiple gear ratios
• Valve Body: Controls hydraulic pressure and shifting
• Clutch Packs: Engage and disengage gear sets
• Transmission Control Module (TCM): Electronic shift control
• Hydraulic Pump: Maintains system pressure

Common Automatic Gearbox Problems

Shifting Issues
